Our plants are not arriving until May!

Spring has arrived, bringing a wonderful chance to make a real difference in our environment. On May 17, 2025, we invite nature lovers from all walks of life. Whether you are an experienced Master Naturalist, an enthusiastic runner, a biking buff, or a concerned neighbor, come together for a day focused on forest conservation. Join us in planting native plants that not only adorn our landscape but also serve vital roles in supporting biodiversity.

We will meet at the Friends Wilderness Center Parking Area, located at 305 Friends Way, Harpers Ferry, WV, at 9:00 AM, Saturday May 17. This event presents an excellent opportunity to connect with fellow nature enthusiasts while actively contributing to the Rolling Ridge Conservancy.

Why Native Plants Matter

Native plants are essential to maintaining the health of local ecosystems. Having evolved in our region, these plants are better suited to their environment compared to non-native species. Planting native species not only helps conserve water but also enriches soil health. Additionally, they provide crucial shelter and food for creatures such as birds, butterflies, and bees.

As a volunteer, you will take a vital step towards restoring and enriching our local biodiversity. Your efforts will support a flourishing environment that nurtures diverse species and healthy ecosystems.

Preparing for our Volunteer Day

To ensure a productive volunteer day, here are some helpful tips:

  • Dress Comfortably: Wear clothes suitable for outdoor work that can get dirty. Sturdy shoes or boots are a recommended since we will be working outside. Gloves and sunglasses or eye protection will be helpful as we will be working in the woods.

  • Bring Supplies: While we will have some tools available, feel free to bring your gloves or small gardening tools. A water bottle is also essential to stay hydrated during the day.

  • Pack Snacks: Bringing your own snacks is a great idea. This will help you recharge during breaks and connect with fellow volunteers.

  • Safety Note: There is always the consideration of ticks and snakes in our landscape. Thought should be placed on dressing for the environment (for example wearing long pants tucked into socks or boots).

Join Us in Making a Difference
